Cornafean club notes

April 15, 2019

ALL IRELAND CHAMPION: Huge congratulations to Michael McGibney the new All Ireland Scór Sinséar champion in recitation.  Michael gave a sterling performance of “The Blight” which went down a storm with audience and adjucator alike.  This is Michael’s 2nd All Ireland title having previously won in 2006, no mean feat, indeed he was the only Ulster winner on Saturday last in Castlebar.  All in Cornafean and surrounding areas are very proud of you Michael.

All Ireland Scór Table Quiz:  Earlier in the day following an extremely close fought competition the Cornafean Quiz team of Michael Dinenny, Tommy McGibney, Brian Doyle and Martin Maguire finished runners up to a strong Kerry team by the narrowest of margins. The Cavan lads and Kerry team were neck and neck throughout the contest with the Kerry team just prevailing by two points.  The Cornafean team received their All Ireland Silver Medals at the end of the competition.   Congratulations to them all on a very successful day for Cornafean and Cavan.

Senior League Division 2

Drumlane 1-10  Cornafean 1-10

Well done to the Reds on earning a hard fought draw against Drumlane on Sunday last.

Drumlane kept their noses in front throughout the game and were 6 pts up and 15 minutes left but a good all round team performance inspired by some strong attacking runs by Mark Johnson and an inspiratational goal and point from Ciaran Duignan brought the Reds right back into the game to earned a deserved draw.

Good luck to the lads on Easter Saturday evening against Swanlinbar.
