Football Update
Well done to the Senior Reds on their well deserved draw against Ballyhaise in Round 2 of the Intermediate Championship played in Mullahoran on Sunday evening last.  This result certainly keep the Reds interest in the 2018 Championship very much alive and hopefully they can build on this going forward for the next game.  Best of luck to the Reserve Reds who take on Cuchullains in the next round of the Division 2 Championship.  Game down for decision in Mullagh on this Wednesday evening 15th August at 7.30.  Wishing our Senior ladies all the best on this coming Sunday morning as they take on Drumgoon in the Intermediate B Championship.  Game to be played in Cornafean at 12 o'clock.

Recent Deaths,
Sean Reilly Behey who died last week was an only child of the late Josie and Peggy Reilly. He was in his mid sixties and had in failing health for some time. To many of his friends and neighbours he was better know as 'Steptoe'. Sean was a quiet decent person and a good neighbour. He loved sport but his favourite past time was Beagle hunting. His comrades in the hunt club formed a guard of honour at his funeral.
Sincere sympathy is extended to his cousins relatives and friends. His funeral mass was in the church of the Immaculate conception with burial in Coronea cemetery with Rev Dan Sheridan officiating.

The late Robert Murdy.
The death has taken place of Robert Murdy, Derrylane. Born 65 years ago in Gartinardress Cornafean he was a very tidy person who took great pleasure in doing things well. His house and garden was always adorned with flowers.
Sincere sympathy is extended to his family, sons Robert and Malcolm daughters Donna and Sabrina, grandchildren brothers Arthur and Mervyn and his extended family. His funeral was in Ballintemple parish church with Canon Alison Calvin presiding

Cornafean Whist Drive
The next Cornafean Whist drive is due to take place on Monday next the 20th of August starting at 9pm. New card players are always welcome with supper served.

Blessing of Graves
Thank you to the Coronea Church Committee under the Chairmanship of Seamus McGahern for their excellent organisation of the Blessing of the Graves in Coronea on Sunday morning last.  On a beautiful afternoon the graveyard was a credit to the hardworking committee and every family who have loved ones interred therein.  Thank you to the Fas workers who throughout the year maintain the graveyard beautifully.  Thank you to Fr Hannon who officiated over the ceremony, Jim Hannon for his assistance and John Masterson who organised the amplification.

Cornafean Ladies GFC Thank You
The Ladies Club would like to thank everyone who baked, sold and bought our baking on Sunday last at Coronea Church after the blessing of the graves.  Thanks to the Church Committee for allowing us to hold the cake sale and thanks to the Clutterbug, Arva, Art McSeain and Padraig Brady, Arva for donations.

CLUB NOTES

A fine evening in Mullahoran for round 2 of the IFC. Cornafean were slow to start and let Ballyhaise ahead by 1pt and after 4 wides Andrew Smith pointed following a good run from Brian Sheridan. It was point for point from here on with good team work resulting in points from Andrew, Barry(2), Jason and Liam. Half time score Ballyhaise 8pts to Cornafean 7pts. Cornafean opened the 2nd half with scores from Barry and Daniel Cullivan. Cornafean worked hard all over the field but some hard hits left nothing easy. Ballyhaise went ahead by 2 pts but with Aodhgan Smith in fine form and another free from Barry levelled it again. Ballyhaise saw 2 players red carded and Cornafean missed a lot of scores but luckily a free from Barry levelled the game just before the final whistle. So its shared points for both teams following this outing.
