Butler, Thomas

August 31, 2003
The late Thomas Butler Thomas Butler was a man of quiet disposition whose favourite hobby was fishing. Although he could swim Thomas was not considered a strong swimmer. He had been accompanied on the fateful river outing by his partner, Maria and her sons Alan and Michael. Son of Thomas and Lily (nee 0'Sullivan) Butler, Castletown, Carlow, Thomas Jr had played Gaelic football with the Fenagh club, being left half back on the side which won the Carlow Junior Football Championship of 1985. The Butler family have a long association with the wearers of the Black and white. The Fenagh club formed a guard of honour at the removal of remains and the burial. Mr Butler's funeral was of huge dimensions on both occasions. He is survived by his partner Maria, by his parents Tom and Lily, brothers John (Castletown) and Michael (Athy), sisters Mrs. Catherine Matthews (Plumplestwon, Castledermot), Mrs Siobhan Walsh (Rathcrogue, Carlow) and Mrs Elizabeth McElligott (Castletown), other relatives, neighbours and friends. Deepest sympathy is extended to Mr Butler's family, partner and friends on their tragic loss. Courtesy of the Carlow Nationalist August 2003
