Carlow manager Anthony Rainbow is confident that his charges can cause an upset against Westmeath on Sunday.

The Barrowsiders are 11/2 to beat Westmeath in their own backyard in the opening round of the Leinster senior football championship.

Next year, three tiers will separate the sides in the league as Pat Flanagan's charges ply their trade in division 1, while Carlow are in the bottom tier.

Rainbow feels that his side have nothing to lose on Sunday and he stressed to the Carlow Nationalist that is when they are at their most dangerous.

"I think if we get a performance out of them on Sunday and show people what we are really capable of, we are in with a chance," said Rainbow.

"We are certainly looking forward to it. We will have to tighten up in defence and we need to get a few more scores ourselves."
