Leinster title for Ballinkillen

Ballinkillen of Carlow claimed the Leinster Club Hurling League Division 2 title with a comfortable win over St Peters Dunboyne (Meath) at Lomans Park. The match was played as a curtain raiser to the Meath versus Armagh Christy Ring Cup game at the Trim venue.

Dunboyne started the brighter and had the games first two scores from Michael O'Grady and Neil Hackett. David English and Vincent Meaney replied for Ballinkillen before the Carlow side took over. Marty Dalton levelled matters at 0-3 each before 1-1, the goal coming from a penalty, from centre back English put Ballinkillen in control. Two pointed frees from Hackett kept the Meath club in the game as Ballinkillen went in at the break 1-5 to 0-5 ahead. Dunboyne were reduced to 14 men when Michael Dunne, on as a substitute, was red carded by Kilkenny referee Sean Cleere.
Playing with the aid of a strong wind Ballinkillen controlled the second half. Seven points from the accurate English in the opening twenty minutes put the game beyond doubt. Craig Wall (2) and Michael Ryan completed the scoring for trhe Carlow side. Dunboyne's only response was a brace of pointed frees from Hackett and a fine effort from Stephen Moran.
After the game Brian Carberry presented the Leinster League Division 2 Shield to Ballinkillen captain James Kinsella.
