A popular Carlow father-of-one who lost his brave battle against illness at the weekend was buried in St Mary's Cemetery on the Tuesday after his death. Sadness spread throughout the entire town when news broke that 28-year-old Liam Quigley Junior of 9 Springhill Court, Graiguecullen and formerley of Ashgrove, Tullow Road, Carlow had died in the early hours of the Saturday morning at the Mater Hospital, Dublin. For the past eight years Liam had fought long and hard against a rare condition called Pulmonary Hypertension which puts pressure on the heart. His heartbroken family were being comforted by a wide circle of relatives and friends on the week of his death. Beloved husband of Deborah, dad to LJ (Liam Jay), son of Liam and Lily and brother of Gillian, Brian, Susan, Alan and Colm, Liam came from a well known Carlow sporting family and his untimely death has sent shockwaves throughout the community. Despite his illness, Liam was always sports mad and loved nothing better than a good game of football. He played for the county team and Eire Og before joining O'Hanrahan's GFC, a club which his family has a long and proud association with. His father is a former chairman of the club, his mother Lily is the present registrar and his three brothers are members of the senior panel. Liam recently attended a league game at the pitch and was looking forward to cheering on the lads in the upcoming championship. He was a great O'Hanrahan's supporter and liked nothing better than seeing the Blues play football at all levels. "Liam was so outgoing and was an all-round sportsman. He won a minor championship medal with the club in 1996. Everyone is devastated by the news, he will be such a big loss to the club and an even bigger loss to his family," Peader Bermingham of O'Hanrahan's told the Nationalist. A past pupil of the Presentation College, Deputy School Principal Anna Mulvihill said Liam's passing was a tragic loss for the whole town. "He was such a smiley, happy-go-lucky person. He was very popular during his time here in the school and was big into all kinds of sport. We are all devastated for the family. Alot of us here in the school have extremely fond memories of Liam. It's a tragic loss for so many people," Ms Mulvihill told The Nationalist. Liam was removed from his parents residence at The Willows, Kilcoole, Rathoe to the Holy Family Church, Askea and burial took place afterwards in St Mary's Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
