Carlow man to run for GAA Presidency

November 08, 2019

Carlow will have representation in the race to become the next GAA president as Clonmore’s Jim Bolger has put his name forward.

At next year’s National Congress in Croke, there will a contest to see who takes over from John Horan as President of the GAA.

Bolger launched his campaign in his home club recently and he has a wealth of administrative experience in the GAA.

The current Leinster Council vice-chairman has served as treasurer of the provincial body in the past.

Bolger joins Cork’s Jerry O’Sullivan, former Connacht GAA chairman Mick Rock, Ex-Armagh footballer Jarlath Burns and another Cork man Larry McCormack who is associated with the GAA in New York.

Speaking to the Carlow Nationalist, Bolger admitted that running for the GAA presidency is something that he has wanted to do for a long time.

“It wasn’t sudden. From the time you go into these positions people ask will you make president some day?,” said Bolger.

“It is always in the back of your mind if the opportunity arose. I am honoured to be able to say I have the credentials to put my name into the hat so to speak.”
