Eire Og manager Joe Murphy admitted they made hard work of seeing off the challenge of Wexford champions Castletown in the Leinster club SFC clash last weekend.

The Carlow champions came flying out of the traps scoring 3-04 in the opening 18 minutes, but only added another 1-02 to their tally for the remainder of the game.

However, it was enough to see off the Wexford champions by 4-08 to 1-10 and Murphy told the Carlow Nationalist that it was a nervy second half.

“It was a bit of a topsy-turvy game,” said Murphy. “We wouldn’t really be satisfied with it. We played well in the first 15 minutes. I think our whole metabolism dropped then and maybe we felt we had enough done.

“When you drop that intensity it is fairly hard to get it back up. There are no easy games in this competition but look, we are still in it. We will move on to the next one.”

Eire Og face Kildare champion Sarsfields in the Leinster club SFC quarterfinal on Sunday week.
