GAA Museum Celebrates Tenth Birthday

August 20, 2008
Programme of Free Events to Mark the Occasion The GAA museum celebrates its 10th birthday this month with a full calendar of events to mark the occasion. August 26th will see the official birthday celebration, and visitors young and old are asked to wear their county colours that day. Activities on the day will include a workshop with John Torpey offering a unique insight into the special art of hurley making, a Cú Chulainn "Warriors and Hurlers" workshop, as well as special guided tours, an Art Station, face painting, balloon modelling and ongoing competitions throughout the day. All of the museum birthday celebration activities are free on August 26th, but need to be booked in advance at the GAA Museum on 01 8192323 / [email protected]. The Museum Lecture Series continues in advance of the GAA All Ireland Hurling Final and in conjunction with Heritage Week with a special evening lecture entitled Hurling & Hollywood by Dr. Seán Crossan on 28th August. For parents looking for something to keep their children occupied during these wet last few weeks of holidays, the museum is an ideal venue. The GAA museum has grown hugely in popularity since its inception in 1998 and is now widely recognised as one of the leading attractions for tourists visiting the capital, as well as school and other tour groups. The museum houses a treasure trove of memories for GAA fans from around the country, charting the various successes achieved in All-Ireland finals over the years. But it also provides a fascinating insight into how our national game has evolved since the GAA was founded in 1884. The museum provides GAA fans with an interactive and engaging history lesson in the sport they love. For opening times and further information visit www.gaa.ie/museum
