Officials of the Meath County Board will meet later this week to begin selecting a preferred candidate off the list of nominees for the county manager position. It is understood that ten nominations were gathered for last Friday's deadline to find a successor to Colm Coyle after his departure from the Royal County hotseat last month, and with it Navan O'Mahony's boss Sean Kelly along with Eamonn O'Brien of Rathkenny heading the list. Kelly, who has also been mentioned with the vacant Cavan post, was the frontrunner for the role along with his assistant Sean Barry, but O'Brien is now seen as the emerging candidate for the position. O'Brien was an All-Ireland winning selector under Sean Boylan and has high level supporters within the Meath county committee. Former managers Eamonn Barry and current outgoing selector Dudley Farrell are both also said to be on the list and are likely to receive nominations from their respective clubs. Currently the county board are checking with those nominated for the job whether they wish to allow their names to be considered. After that an interview process will take place before the board ask the clubs to ratify their chosen nominee.
