McGuigan cites Dublin performance as best in years
August 18, 2008
Tyrone playmaker Brian McGuigan has labelled his side's 12-point drubbing of Dublin at the weekend as the best since their All-Ireland final victory over Kerry three years ago.
The Ardboe clubman returned from injury this year to help the Red Hands into the last four of the All-Ireland, but believes the tables will be turned against them when they face Wexford in two weeks, with regards to the underdogs' tag.
"That's probably the best performance we've had since the '05 final," admitted McGuigan.
"A lot of people were writing us off and that gave us a wee bit of inspiration to prove we're not finished.
"But this is only a stepping stone to the semi-finals. Wexford is going to be just as hard as Dublin. They use the media the same way as us people writing them off so it's two teams trying to prove the media wrong.
McGuigan admitted that Tyrone had been fortunate that with some of their scores that may not have gone over on another day, but insists that things won't be the same against the Model County.
"Everything went well for us," said McGuigan.
"We were taking shots from 45 yards out and they were going over. On another day they may not go over. I don't think we'll get as much room the next day against a good Wexford defence. Maybe we caught Dublin on the hop, but we just played out of our skins today. It was a lucky day for us."
