Support your County Ball
It was all fun and games recently in aid of a very worthwhile cause at Croke Park in support of the County Ball event in aid of Temple Street Chidlren's Hospital. GAA president Nickey Brennan joined top Dublin footballer Ciaran Whelan and his son Jamie (2) along with Temple Street patients Ben Kelly-O'Brien (4) from Wexford and Luke Concannon (3) from Dublin to announce the details of the annual Support your County Ball event in aid of Temple Street Children's University Hospital. Michael Lyster of The Sunday Game (MC for the event) and Paul Collins (quizmaster on the evening) were also on hand to lend their support. Sponsored by McNamara and Co. Building Contractors, the Ball will take place in the Hogan Suite, Croke Park on Friday 19th September 2008. The evening will commence with a Red Carpet Reception and Casino at 7.30pm, followed by dinner, plenty of sporting banter, live music and a whole lot more throughout the night. Guests can expect to rub shoulders with an array of sports stars and indeed with celebrities from all over Ireland who will be out in force to support this unique and worthwhile event. Speaking at the launch Michael Lyster said, "I am delighted to be involved in this hugely popular and unique event which is now in its third year and would encourage true "County" supporters to join us on the evening in aid of this truly worthwhile cause." "This event will appeal to genuine "County" supporters and guests will be encouraged to support their county through wearing their team jersey or colours and by taking part in sporting related competitions throughout the evening," said Denise Fitzgerald, CEO of the Fundraising Office at Temple Street. "We are very grateful to McNamara and Co for their generous support of ,ÄòSupport your County Ball' again this year." Each table will be themed and decorated with the 34 county colours (including London and New York) and tables are priced at Eu1000.00 for a table of 10 and Eu1200.00 for a table of 12. All of the money raised will go towards development of a new dedicated CF and Respiratory Out Patient Unit in Temple Street. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common, life threatening, recessively inherited disease with an average national yearly incidence of 1 in 1500 live births and a carrier rate of 1 in 20 people in Ireland.  There are approximately 90 children with Cystic Fibrosis in Temple Street.
