Louth hold onto home advantage

The Gaelic Grounds Drogheda
Louth's eagerly-awaited SFC qualifier against Tyrone will be played in Drogheda on Saturday July 12 at 7.00pm. The Wee County haven't been allowed to host their 'home' championship matches in recent times but Reds chiefs have finally put their foot down and insisted that the match will go ahead in their traditional county grounds. The match will be an all-ticket affair. Louth were first out of the hat in the draw but it was originally felt that the game might be switched to Parnell Park or Navan, as has been the case before. However, the Wee County were loathe to surrender their home advantage and decided enough was enough. Thus, the first-round qualifier - a repeat of the 2006 two-game epic - is fixed for the Gaelic Grounds. One possible concern is that, due to capacity restrictions, demand for tickets could exceed supply but it is worth noting that only 6,000 attended the Louth/Tyrone thriller in Navan two years ago, so confidence is high that those who really want to see this year's game will be able to do so. Louth manager Eamonn McEneaney is in his third year in charge and this will be his first home championship match. With the vital advantage of playing at home confirmed, he is hoping his players can give their supporters a night to remember at the O'Raghallaighs: "This is a chance for our team to redeem themselves after a poor final 20 minutes against Dublin," he said.
