Kerry pay high price for success

December 07, 2007
The Kerry county board's expenditure for 2007 was almost EUR4 million, an increase of EUR500,000 on last year. However, over EUR300,000 of the increased costs were on match tickets, secretary Eamon O'Sullivan explains in his annual report. Overall, Kerry's spending increased by EUR498,305 on the previous year to EUR3.99 million, with EUR310,000 spent on extra, and costlier, match tickets. The EUR10 increase in All-Ireland final tickets accounted for EUR100,000 in extra costs, while there was also an unprecedented demand for tickets for the All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin. The team holiday for the All-Ireland winners to Australia last year cost in excess of EUR322,000, over EUR100,000 of an increase on the previous year when there was no official holiday, but players were rewarded with vouchers to the tune of EUR212,000. There are no specific figures for the cost of the Kerry senior football team in 2007, including holiday and medical costs, though it is estimated at around EUR800,000.
