O Se to take Clare job

November 26, 2006

Paidi O'Se
Paidi O Se has confirmed that he is to return to inter-county football management in 2007 as the new Clare senior boss. The eight time All-Ireland winner's last management role was as the Westmeath manager in 2004 and '05, as he led the Lakesiders to an historic first Leinster senior title in his debut year. Previously he had served as Kerry manager from 1996 to 2003, bringing the Sam Maguire to the Kingdom in '97 and 2000. However, All-Ireland semi-final defeats in '01, '03 and a final defeat to Armagh in 2002 saw O Se leave the Kingdom under some criticism. He had indicated that he would be keen to retake the Kerry job once Jack O'Connor stood down from the position in September, but the Kingdom county board have since decided to hand to role to Pat O Shea. Clare could face All-Ireland champions Kerry in the 2007 Munster SFC semi-final if they manage to overcome Waterford in their first round clash.
