Mullahoran caused a huge upset in the Cavan SFC final at Kingspan Breffni Park when they recorded a six-point victory over holders Cavan Gaels, despite playing the second half with 14 men. Mullahoran…..2-10 Cavan Gaels….0-10 After three consecutive county final defeats to their town rivals, this was a hugely satisfying result for Mullahoran who achieved victory the hard way. They appeared to have it all to do when full forward Eddie Reilly received a straight red card two minutes before the break, but inspired by Danny Brady, they produced a tremendous second half performance to upset the odds. Mullahoran were superbly coached by Armagh star Justin McNulty and a goal in each half was sufficient to see off the hot favourites. Brady scored the first after only five minutes and the underdogs led by 1-3 to 0-3 at the end of the first quarter. But by half-time, Mullahoran's lead was reduced to one point, 1-5 to 0-7, with Seanie Johnson leading the Gaels fightback. Despite being down a man, Mullahoran had opened up a 1-7 to 0-7 lead by the 10th minute of the second half. Cavan Gaels went 14 minutes without a score until Anthony Forde came up from defence to shoot a point. With two points between the teams, Philip Brady scored the killer second goal in the 49th minute to relieve the Gaels of the title and sparked wild celebrations in the south Cavan football stronghold.
