Jarlath Fallon is expected to go straight back into the Galway team for Saturday's All-Ireland football qualifier against Westmeath on Saturday. The former Footballer of the Year sensationally resigned as a Galway selector to make himself available for team selection earlier this week - three years after he announced his retirement from the inter-county game. And his chances of starting the Pearse Stadium tie have greatly increased due to injuries to three key forwards. Derek Savage still hasn't recovered from the quad muscle injury which ruled him out of the Connacht final defeat to Mayo, while Sean Armstrong is out with the hamstring injury he sustained in the same game. Compounding the situation for Galway boss Peter Ford is that Armstrong's replacement in Castlebar, Damien Dunleavy, went over on his ankle in that game and is still receiving treatment. "We won't decide until tomorrow whether Ja will start the match or not," Ford said. "Ja was constantly bothered by the pain in his knee (before he retired in early 2004) and he was only able to train about once every 10 days at best. "But thankfully for the last three to four months, Ja has been pain-free, and his form with Tuam Stars has been excellent. As well, he's been training with us and he's in great physical shape. "But even before he started training with the squad, Ja regularly worked out in the gym, so he's kept himself very fit and lean." Tweet
