Hiney clings to 'slim hope'

October 30, 2005
Dublin hurler Stephen Hiney has admitted that he has only a "slim chance" of ever playing again after undergoing eye surgery. The Ballyboden St. Enda's dual player underwent surgery to correct a detached retina in his left eye, and also had laser treatment on his right eye, and he has been advised never to play hurling again. "I intend getting some additional medical opinion, but while I am not ruling out playing again, it seems there is only a very slim chance," the 22 year old said. The Dublin under 21 star's concern is another worry for new county boss Tommy Naughton who has already been forced to come to terms with the decision by Conal Keaney to call time on his hurling career.
