There is no doubt about it they love an aul appeal in Galway.

Hot on the heels of the latest controversy that delayed the senior hurling championship, this weekend's IFC final between Claregalway and Williamstown is now in doubt.

The Oileann Arann club are mulling over whether or not to appeal a decision by the Connacht Council's Hearings Committee over their semi-final defeat to Williamstown.

Having been defeated after extra time in the semi-final replay on Sunday, October 8th, the Oileann Arann club lodged an objection over Williamstown allegedly introducing an ineligible player during the second half of the match.

The club claimed that the player in question had played Gaelic football in the U.S earlier in the summer, which they claim made him ineligible to line out with his native club.

The matter has been heard by a number of committees at both county and provincial level with the last of those ruling that the Williamstown club had done no wrong.

Oileann Arann now have to decide whether or not to bring their case further and have until this morning (Friday, November 3rd) to do so.

As it stands, the IFC final will go ahead at Pearse Stadium at 1pm on Saturday while the winners are due to face St John's of Sligo away the following afternoon.
