Philip Leahy RIP.

Cork GAA is mourning the passing of Philip Leahy following a tragic swimming accident in the US.

The 22-year-old J1 student from Ballyhooly suffered a cardiac arrest on a beach in Ocean City, Maryland while swimming with friends on Wednesday and passed away at the Atlantic General Hospital last night. His mother Ann and brothers William and Patrick had kept a vigil by his bedside.

Philip's death was announced on a GoFundMe account website, which was set up to cover his medical costs and had raised over €85,000 in donations.

The Cork IT student will always hold a special place in the annals of Ballyhooly GAA club after he captained them to win their first ever county junior 'B' football title last year.

Ballyhooly goalkeeper Pa O'Connor said Philip was the "most genuine and committed" player on the team.
