Fitzgerald hopes de Búrca is cleared for semi-final

Tadgh de Burca is red-carded by referee Fergal Horgan

Wexford boss Davy Fitzgerald hopes the GAA "see common sense" and allow Waterford's Tadhg de Búrca to play in next month's All-Ireland SHC semi-final against Cork.

The Déise defender was issued a straight red card in the 65th minute after appearing to interfere with Wexford forward Harry Kehoe's faceguard as the 14 men went on to claim a 1-23 to 1-19 victory at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

It is not yet known whether or not whether an appeal will be launched to try and free up de Búrca for the clash with the Rebels but Fitzgerald is hoping that he will be "cut a break".

"I really hope they see common sense. Tadhg de Búrca is not a dirty player," the Clare man is quoted saying by the Irish Sun.

"I really hope the GAA cut him a break and I mean that. He deserves to play in an All-Ireland semi-final.

"When I talked to the lads inside they didn't think he meant it either. I think he deserves a break and I really hope they give it to him.

"You want your best players on the field out there. Give him a chance. Let him out there and let him go in the semi- final and let the best team win.

"That's a stupid thing if you're to miss a game because of that in my view."
