Maurice Fitzgerald will be ratified as a Kerry football selector at a county board meeting in IT Tralee tonight.
The Kingdom legend will fill the void left by Diarmuid Murphy in Eamonn Fitzmaurice's backroom team. The former All-Ireland winning goalkeeper stepped down after six years as a selector last month.
Considered to be one of Kerry's greatest ever forwards, 1997 and 2000 All-Ireland winner Fitzgerald managed his club St. Mary's, Caherciveen to a county IFC title last year and to an All-Ireland club IFC success last February in Croke Park. Indeed, the 47-year-old was still playing for the south Kerry club up until a year ago.
Fitzgerald will join trainer / selector Padraig Corcoran and selectors Mikey Sheehy and Liam Hassett in the management team.
"I am delighted to welcome Maurice into the Kerry senior football set-up. His football knowledge, work ethic and personality will be a huge asset to us," manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice said.
