Extension snub nothing to do with RTE boycott, insists Harte

Mickey Harte is adamant that the decision of the Tyrone county board to only hand him a one-year extension as football manager is not related to his boycott of RTE.

Harte and his squad have refused to give interviews to the national broadcaster since a hugely insensitive radio sketch about the death of the manager's daughter Michaela, who was murdered on honeymoon in Mauritius, was aired on the John Murray Show in 2011.

"That's a myth altogether," the three-time All-Ireland winning boss said on the Opel GAA/GPA All Stars tour in Dubai.

"That's just stuff that gets into the grapevine, people repeat it and it becomes the truth.

"In fact it's not the truth at all. It's nothing to do with any particular stance that may or may not be taken. But that seems to be thrown into the mix. It sounds like a reason but it is really not at all."
