Nominees for Pearse Medal revealed

Unsurprisingly, Dublin and Kilkenny players dominate the shortlist for the Leinster GAA Pearse Medal.

This new accolade will see the overall winner in both codes awarded a specially commissioned Pearse Medal, which acknowledges the link between the 1916 leader Padraig Pearse and the Leinster Council.

All-Ireland champions Dublin have Diarmuid Connolly, Jonny Cooper, Brian Fenton and Dean Rock are on the list of football nominees which have been drawn up to honour this year's outstanding players in the Leinster senior football and hurling championships. The only non-Dublin player on the list of football nominees is Westmeath's James Dolan.

All-Ireland runners-up Kilkenny are represented by Cillian Buckley, JohnJo Farrell and Paul Murphy on the hurling shortlist. They are joined by Westmeath's Niall O'Brien and David Burke of Galway.

The overall Leinster senior hurler and footballer of the year will be announced early next month.
