While his St Brigid's team mates will be bidding for Connacht club SFC glory, Ian Kilbride will be hundreds of miles away taking on a different type of challenge.

Kilbride is a member of the Irish Army and is set to embark on a tour of duty in the Lebanon meaning he will miss out on the club's Connacht campaign.

The county star was named as Man of the Match in last Sunday's Roscommon SFC final win over Padraig Pearses and he admitted to the Roscommon Herald that he hadn't thought too much about missing the rest of the year until now.

"To be honest I never thought about missing games before we had the county final played," stated Kilbride.

"All I was focusing on was trying to beat a very good Padraig Pearses team. Of course since the end of the match people have been talking about the Connacht championship and all that, so there is a bit of regret that I can't be involved in that," said Kilbride.

"But look, it's about time I had my tour of duty, 2011 was my last one. So I'll be in Lebanon, tuning into Willie Hegarty for commentary of the Connacht semi-final, hoping the lads can keep the run going."
