The Roscommon senior footballers are, apparently, divided on the prospect of Kevin McStay being appointed as manager for 2017.

Former RTE pundit McStay, who was joint-manager this year along with Fergie O'Donnell this year, is the only candidate for the job following the withdrawal of Nigel Dineen last week.

The Irish Independent reports that the squad has met to discuss events and that a slight majority of 30 players polled are in favour of McStay being handed sole control.

County Board officials are scheduled to interview the ex-Mayo footballer - who guided St Brigid's to All-Ireland Club glory - this week.
