A complaint has been made to Gardaí over an alleged brawl at an underage match in Wexford recently.

A minor hurling match between Ferns St Aidans and Enniscorthy side Shamrocks was abandoned after a row erupted between players and supporters from both teams.

The Wexford People reports that referee Joe Kelly was forced to call a halt to proceedings once the brawl started.

It is alleged that Kelly brandished a red card to a Shamrocks player and the row broke out from there.

Gardaí were not called to the incident, but the provincial paper state that the Wexford County Board were of the understanding that a complaint was made to the local Garda Station.

"We are in the middle of a disciplinary meeting here at the minute trying to decide what action to take," the spokesperson told the Wexford People.

"But it appears that there will be a criminal case now proceeding with one player reported to have suffered a broken nose so we really can't do anything until that's done."
