Aogán Ó Fearghail to feature on new TG4 'Comhrá' series

September 06, 2016

GAA President Aogan Ó Fearghail

In the first programme of the new Comhrá series on TG4 this Thursday, the current President of the GAA tells Máirtín Tom Sheáinín about growing up in Co. Cavan and about the Post Office he ran with his wife Frances.  He talks about his passion for Gaelic games that has led him to the highest elected office in the organisation for which he has worked all his life.

One of TG4's most popular series has a deceptively simple format - a conversation between the host, the award-winning broadcaster Máirtín Tom Sheáinín and his weekly guest. Máirtín has a unique broadcasting talent - that of putting his guest completely at ease from the outset. Be it a national figure or someone who has lived life far away from the headlines, all his guests are clearly content in his company and happy to share their innermost feelings or experiences in a quiet easy conversation with Máirtín. His approach is to let the guest tell the story, with some gentle pointers from the host, as befits a good conversationalist.

Drumgoon and Cavan native Aogán Ó Fearghail succeeded Liam Ó Néill as Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, taking on the role formally at the end of the GAA's Annual Congress at the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan on Saturday 28th February 2015. Ó Fearghail made history by becoming the first man from Cavan to be elected to the office of GAA President. He is the first man to be elected to the role from the province of Ulster since Monaghan native Seán McCague, who served from 2000-2003.  Aogán Ó Fearghail is a native of Maudabawn, a rural area close to the town of Cootehill in Co. Cavan. His club is Drumgoon Éire Óg, the first ever winners of the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship. He is married to Frances and they have four children.
