MHC 'B': High fives all round for the Kingdom

September 03, 2016

Kerry's Tomás O'Connor and Meath's Will Flynn.

Kerry completed an All-Ireland MHC 'B' five-in-a-row in Semple Stadium today when running out 4-17 to 3-11 winners over Meath.

Goals from Shane Conway, Eric Leen, Padraig O'Mahony and Gearoid O'Mahony boosted the Kingdom to a nine-point final success.

The end scoreline flattered the winners somewhat as the game was delicately poised entering the home straight but two late goals dashed the Royals' dreams of All-Ireland success.

Meath enjoyed their fair share of possession during the opening period but they were knocked back on their heels by the concession of two goals.

Captain Conway raised the Kingdom's first green flag after five minutes and Leen added a second in stoppage time.

Mickey Mullen netted a first-half goal for Meath but the John Hennessy managed Kerry held a slender 2-6 to 1-8 advantage at the halfway stage and they made an encouraging start to the second-half with Barry O'Mahony, Conway and Leen finding the target

The Royals hit back with a goal through Brian Dowling on the three quarter hour mark and they drew level with seven minutes left on the clock after captain Will Flynn pounced for their third three pointer.

As events transpired, Kerry had another trick or two up their sleeve, courtesy of Padraig and Gearoid O'Mahony, and they pulled away to maintain their vice-like grip on the Peadar Ó Liatháin Cup.
