Mickey Harte is pleased that Sean Cavanagh is reconsidering his intercounty future.

The Tyrone veteran went into 2016 convinced that it would be his last season representing the Red Hands but stated following the Ulster champions' narrow All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Mayo that he was going to think things over as he had expected to go further in the championship.

Commenting on the prospect of his three-time All-Ireland winning star staying on for one final push in 2017, Harte told The Irish News:

"I'd be delighted, because that's what I would hope too, and I intimated after the game that he shouldn't be making any rash decisions," said Harte.

"We'll have to sit down and have a good chat about what's the best formula for him to still be in there booting for Tyrone next year."
