A bitterly disappointed Austin Gleeson took his hat off to a 'phenomenal' Kilkenny team following last night's Thurles thriller.

Speaking to Sky Sports before being presented with their 'man-of-the-match' accolade, the gifted Mount Sion star struggled to conceal his devastation at missing out on a place in this year's Liam MacCarthy Cup decider.

"It was the same kind of thing as last week except in the end we didn't even get the draw.

"It just shows the calibre of players that they are in Kilkenny. There's a reason they are the kingpins of hurling.

"They're just a phenomenal team and whoever gets through tomorrow's semi-final have some task ahead of them against that team.

"We held our own for 150, 155 minutes but it just wasn't enough.

"I don't know what else to say."
