Donegal's profligacy in front of the posts came back to haunt them against Dublin, according to manager Rory Gallagher.

Speaking to Sky Sports shortly after the final whistle, Gallagher bemoaned his side's failure to take the chances that came their way.

"When we were three points down after getting the goal in the second-half we were in with a good shout but to be fair to Dublin they played a lot of smart football and took their chances.

"Early on we hit a few wides and we knew coming down that we had to take all of our chances. We had a couple of chances even before we got off the mark and ultimately Dublin were five up at half-time.

"We felt we should have had maybe seven or eight points on the board ourselves so that was disappointing."

With a number of Donegal players expected to follow Colm McFadden into inter-county retirement, the Fermanagh native was non-committal on his future as manager.

"All I was thinking of today was trying to get into an All-Ireland semi-final," he stated.

"We've a great group of lads and we've worked really hard. A lot of people have put in a lot of work, they're a credit. It's just disappointing we weren't good enough today."
