Hurling legend Donal Og Cusack has been denied planning permission to build in his native Cloyne and has been branded an "outsider" by the local authority!

The current Clare senior hurling coach, who won a Cork SHC medal with Cloyne during his illustrious playing career, was seeking to build a four-bed house about 1km from his home village.

The Irish Daily Star reports that Cork County Council has invoked its contentious "locals only" policy by refusing planning permission.

It states that the area in which Cusack has applied to build is outside the Cloyne settlement boundary which is designated a "rural area under strong urban influence".

The development of new homes by "outsiders" is restricted.
