Derry manager Damien Barton says he would have done exactly the same thing as Tipperary's Kevin O'Halloran in the closing stages of Saturday's All-Ireland SFC qualifier at Breffni Park.

O'Halloran pulled down opponent Brendan Rogers, preventing the Oak Leafers from possibly scoring a late goal and taking a black card in the process as Tipp came away from the Cavan town venue with a famous one-point win.

Speaking after his side's 1-21 to 2-17 defeat, Barton accepted that O'Halloran did what he had to help ensure the win for the Premier County who now face Galway in the quarter-finals.

"I think that the ball should be moved forward 10 yards because we would have kicked the ball over the bar (and equalised)," Barton is quoted as saying in today's Irish News.

"There has to be a greater penalty. I would have done the same thing (as O'Halloran) and, if one of my boys had not done that, I would have been disappointed as well. If there had been a 10-yard penalty, then I think Mark (Lynch) may have had a chance to give us something."
