Clare hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald has undergone minor heart surgery.

The 45-year-old had two angioplasty stents inserted at a Dublin hospital yesterday and is expected to be discharged tomorrow with the hope of being on the sidelines for the Banner County's crunch All-Ireland SHC quarter-final against Galway on Sunday in Thurles.

It marks the second time that the Sixmilebridge native has went under the knife, after having stents put in in 2009 due to a blocked artery.

Dónal Óg Cusack and Louis Mulqueen are expected to take the reins against the Tribesmen should Fitzgerald be unable to attend the game at Semple Stadium this weekend.
