Ryan McCluskey sees tomorrow's All-Ireland SFC qualifier against Mayo as an opportunity for Fermanagh to finally take a big scalp.

Despite reaching last year's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final where they gave a good account of themselves against Dublin, injured defender McCluskey feels the Erne County won't gain the respect of the big guns until they actually go and beat one of them.

"It's definitely well within our grasp," the Enniskillen Gaels clubman told the Irish News.

"We have certainly improved under Pete (McGrath), we've addressed a number of defensive problems we had in the first season and in attack we have some of the most potent forwards in the game.

"In terms of our development, it's a massive. It's a game we would love to get a result from. Maybe the draw has been fortunate in the last couple of years as we've faced sides that have been around us.

"We need to make that next step, and there's no better credentials than against teams like Mayo.

"Mayo have come off a tough defeat to Galway and they'll be looking to bounce back from that. You know the guys you're coming up against, both sides will have done their homework on each other. They'll be wounded by the last day and will feel they have a point to prove."
