Westmeath forward Ray Connellan knows that they will have to be at their best to beat Kildare in Sunday's Leinster SFC semi-final.

The Lake County don't have a great track record against the Lilywhites in the provincial championship and one has to go back as far as 1960 for the Midlanders one and only win over Kildare in Leinster.

However, Westmeath are seeking to reach their second consecutive Leinster SFC final and Connellan who returns to the panel having spent three weeks on trial with Aussie Rules side St Kilda's believes that Tom Cribbin's charges can build on their win in the last round.

"Look, Kildare will be tough opponents. We've played them a few times in the last number of years and there's probably a healthy rivalry beginning to grow between the teams," Connellan told the Westmeath Independent.

"They are a very good side but the lads got a great win against Offaly and we'll be looking to build on that on Sunday."
