Cork clubs plead for players

Cork stand for the national anthem before the defeat to Tipperary in Semple Stadium

A number of Cork GAA clubs have expressed their anguish of not having enough access to their county players.

At the most recent meeting of the Cork County Board, a number of clubs backed Nemo Rangers' call for their inter-county players to be released on a more regular basis.

Following last weekend's surprise defeat to Tipperary in the Munster SFC, there are calls for change in the county.

And one of the changes is to allow players line out with their clubs on a more consistent basis.

The Southern Star reports O'Donovan Rossa manager Shane Crowley has urged changes be made.

"There should be windows made available where clubs have access to their players and when Cork should not be training," said Crowley.

He added: "Fringe players, especially, want to play, they find it difficult to make up the numbers and not be allowed to play with their clubs."

His sentiments were echoed by a number of club delegates and managers who feel that a change is needed.
