Offaly GAA is mourning the passing of Ambrose Hickey.

The Daingean man lined out at centre forward on the Offaly team that lost the 1969 All-Ireland football final to Kerry by 0-7 to 0-10. He played at the highest level for many years and won Leinster senior and junior medals with the Faithful. With his beloved Daingean, he won a minor championship medal in 1962 before capturing a senior championship medal three years later.

He acted as caretaker of the Daingean GAA pitch in recent years and was the club's vice-president at the time of his passing on Friday.

Ambrose's remains will be removed to Ballinagar Church tomorrow evening (7pm) for Funeral Mass at 2pm on Tuesday, followed by burial afterwards in St. Mary's Cemetery, Daingean.
