It's been an eventful week for well-known Mullingar auctioneer and St. Loman's GAA stalwart Aidan Davitt.

On Wednesday, he took his seat in the Seanad for the first time where he will act as Fianna Fail spokesman for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. Then on Friday night, he was in his own words "pulled from the terrace" to referee the first half of the Westmeath JFC game between St. Loman's and Tyrrellspass after the appointed referee failed to show up.

Aidan, whose brother James was corner back on the Westmeath team that won an historic Leinster SFC title in 2004, duly tucked his trousers into his socks and got on with the task in hand before handing over the whistle to inter-county referee Mickey Dan Murtagh at half-time.

We're sure Aidan's refereeing had nothing to do with the fact that St. Loman's ran out comfortable winners!
