No double promotion for Meath and Antrim; replay looks inevitable

Antrim's Eoghan Campbell with Sean Heavey and James Toher of Meath

GAA president Aogán Ó Fearghaíl has dismissed speculation that Meath and Antrim will both be allowed to compete in next year's Leinster SHC.

With the Central Competitions Control Committee set to meet today to decide what course to take after the Royals were erronously presented with the Christy Ring Cup after Saturday's draw at Croke Park, a double-promotion is one of the compromises being touted. But the Association's president seems to believe a replay is inevitable:

"If the game ended in a draw, there is only one action they can take. That [both teams going up] is not an option," the Cavan man told RTE radio this morning. "It sounds nice at times and it's lovely to be nice to everyone. I'm sure that's what people's reaction would be. However, we have to be fair and we have to be honest.

"The CCCC will consider the referee's report and will take responsibility for this matter; they won't hedge duck or dive. As I said, if the game ended in a draw, there is only one action they can take."
