It's been a memorable day for Donegal clubs at the Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta finals with Naomh Conaill and Na Dúnaibh (Downings) being crowned senior and junior champions respectively.
Naomh Conaill edged out Kerry's An Ghaeltacht to win back-to-back senior titles, while Na Dúnaibh bridged a 24-year gap by defeating Renvyle of Galway 2-9 to 0-12 in the junior decider. The finals in Ballyvourney, Co. Cork were attended by President Michael D Higgins.
In the senior final, Leon Thompson netted in the second half and Eunan Doherty produced a man of the match performance as the Glenties men won 1-16 to 2-10.
The winners led by 0-8 to 0-4 at half-time before Sean M Ó Conchuir's 36th minute goal for the West Kerry outfit cut the gap to two, 0-10 to 1-5. Thompson struck at the other end four minutes later and Naomh Conaill had extended their advantage to 1-14 to 1-8 before Eoin MacGearailt scored An Ghaeltacht's second goal with seven minutes to go to set up a grandstand finish.
However, Glenties grabbed the last two points to retain their crown.
Meanwhile, goals from man of the match Lorcan O'Connor and Gary McClafferty either side of half-time were the crucial scores in Downings' junior success.
