Tomás Ó Sé has described Armagh GAA's decision to refute claims made by Joe Brolly about Kieran McGeeney's management on the Sunday Game last night as 'daft'.

Armagh chairman Paul McArdle took the unprecedented step of appearing on the programme in a pre-recorded segment to defend McGeeney, whose managerial credentials had been called into question by Brolly in the wake of the Orchard County's Ulster SFC quarter-final loss to Cavan eight days ago.

As well as backing his manager, McArdle hit back at Brolly's 'inaccuracies' in relation to the availability of Crossmaglen players and players not being allowed to line out for their clubs.

"To claim that Armagh players don't play for their clubs is simply incorrect," he said.

"Stefan Campbell for example, in the period up to two weeks before the Cavan game, played in four out of five of his club's [Clan na Gael] league matches.

"Likewise, the suggestion that Kieran McGeeney will not work with Crossmaglen players is incredible given that both Tony Kernan and James Morgan both played for Armagh last Sunday."

McArdle also rubbished the suggestion that Armagh are overspending on their footballers.

"We don't have vast resources to pour into our senior inter-county team. In fact, this year our spend is down significantly from the same spend last year," he added.

"Our senior county footballers have not been on a foreign training camp, not indeed have they had a training weekend. Kieran McGeeney understands this fully,

"As far as Armagh GAA is concerned, having had the opportunity to correct the inaccuracies, we will be making no further comment on these matters."

Reacting to the statement, Kerry great and Sunday Game pundit Ó Sé said: "I've great respect for Armagh GAA, but I feel it's kind of daft that they have to come on TV and explain... Joe is a pundit, he's well entitled to his opinions.

"If his opinions are right or wrong, Armagh shouldn't be focusing on Joe Brolly, Armagh should be focusing on what's going on inside their own county and not feel the need to respond to what an analyst is talking about.

"Personally, if I saw it happening in my own county, if I saw a county board replying to something like that, I wouldn't be too happy about it.

"I couldn't see how Kieran McGeeney would be happy with that either. They're going through transition at the moment. They are a team that was successful in the recent past.

"I think it was a poor decision by Armagh to come on TV and reply to it."
