Andy Moran became Mayo's most 'capped' footballer when he made his 133rd appearance for the Westerners against London yesterday.

The veteran Ballaghadereen attacker came off the bench to score two points in Mayo's 2-16 to 0-9 Connacht SFC first round win at Ruislip and, in the process, overtook the record previously held by James Nallen.

"I hadn't realised I was so close when I equalled it against Down (in the final round of the Allianz League) - I was more worried about getting a few minutes on the field," Moran told the Western People.

"So when I was told that day I was a bit surprised, but thinking about it since and even knowing that today could be the day when you get the record. I'm very, very proud of it. I was a bit of a wild card when John Maughan brought me in, in 2003, and today I've passed out my hero in James Nallen."
