Flynn: Laois-Dublin should be in O'Moore Park

Bernard Flynn says the decision to fix the Laois-Dublin Leinster SFC quarter-final for Nowlan Park makes no sense whatsoever.

Laois, who accounted for Wicklow in the first round on Saturday night, are up in arms after the Leinster Council scheduled the glamour tie for the Kilkenny venue rather than O'Moore Park on June 4. The O'Moore County will continue to lobby the provincial body for the venue to be changed, even though tickets went on sale at 8 o'clock this morning.

"I believed that if they beat Wicklow, which they did, they should have home advantage in Portlaoise," Flynn told RTÉ.

"It doesn't make any sense to me to bring a big football game like that to Nowlan Park. There's no sense to it. It was fixed beforehand, I do know that but I can understand his frustration."

Flynn's former Royal County team-mate Colm O'Rourke is also baffled by the decision.

"Of course it should be in Portlaoise, there's nothing wrong with the pitch there. I think the reason was there wasn't enough seating in Portlaoise, but the Dubs all stand on Hill 16 anyway," he said on RTÉ.

"It's a bit of a contradiction that you bring a football game to the only county who don't compete in the football championship. It would be the same thing as bringing Kilkenny to Drogheda to play the first round of the hurling championship."
