Jamie Barron and Patrick Curran lined out in yesterday's Allianz Hurling League final replay, despite being bereaved recently.

Waterford manager Derek McGrath was quick to pay tribute to both after they lost loved ones in the past few days. Barron's grandmother was laid to rest this morning, while the funeral of Curran's uncle and godfather took place on Saturday.

McGrath also sympathised with Clare selector Louis Mulqueen, whose mother died last week and for whom a minute's silence was observed before the throw-in at Semple Stadium.

"It was a difficult week for Louis Mulqueen, losing his mam, difficult week for Jamie losing his grandmother, and Patrick," he said.

"I was at a funeral on Saturday and Patrick was carrying the coffin of his uncle, and to go out and perform like that.

"There was a lot of stuff to put it in perspective on whether you win or lose."
