Ryan McCluskey has been ruled out of Fermanagh's Ulster SFC preliminary round clash with Antrim on Sunday week.

The vastly experienced Enniskillen Gaels clubman will undergo surgery to correct an ongoing hip / thigh injury on May 26 and has been advised not to play until after the procedure is carried out.

Speaking to the Irish News, McCluskey explained: "It is not the news you want to hear and I was hoping against hope that I might be able to go ahead and take part in this year's championship and have the surgery when it was over.

"But I was told in no uncertain terms on Wednesday that this would not do, so I will be having the operation on May 26. I'm hoping to make a good recovery and maybe be fit to rejoin the squad if we are still involved later on in the year.

"The injury is the result of general wear and tear, but it will still be a bit strange watching the boys from the sideline on Sunday week. Of course, I will be kicking every ball with them and I am still part of the squad."
