Kildare captain Eoin Doyle is edging his way back to full fitness since suffering an injury last year.

Doyle was involved with Ireland in the International Series last November, but hasn't played a game since as he recovers from a groin injury.

Having been made Kildare captain for 2016, Doyle is yet to lead his side out in action and although he has resumed light training, he does not know when he will return to action.

"I've put in a big old shift rehab wise, particularly over the last seven or eight weeks," Doyle told the Kildare Nationalist.

"I've been doing a lot up in Santry and I'm back on the pitch doing straight line running, just very light stuff but I suppose it's a start.

"It's a step closer than I was a couple of weeks ago. The big thing now is that I am seeing a bit of progression. For the first three or four months I was getting very frustrated because I was doing a lot of work and putting in a lot of effort but not getting a whole lot of results in terms of progression.

"I'm hoping that over the next few weeks that things will steadily progress, that's the plan anyway in terms of being back in training, I don't actually know but when you are making progress it's a lot easier to keep going."
