Monaghan celebrate beating Tyrone in the Ulster U21 FC Final

Monaghan manager Ciaran McBride says he couldn't take part in the celebrations after last night's Ulster U21 final victory.

The Farney men defeated McBride's native Tyrone by 0-13 to 0-11 at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh, claiming their first U21 provincial title in 17 years in the process, and afterwards McBride explained his confliction.

"I'm absolutely delighted, no doubt about it, absolutely delighted for Monaghan football," McBride told RTE Sport.

"At the end of the day I find it very difficult to play against your own county. Your county is your county and that's it.

"I will be the first to admit that, which is why, when the final whistle blew I allowed the Monaghan players and supporters to enjoy themselves, enjoy the celebrations.

"I wasn't talking part and won't be taking part in any of that."

The former Red Hands star also gave a special mention to counterpart Fergal Logan and his management team, tipping them to one day take over the reins from Mickey Harte as Tyrone's new senior management team.

"For me, from a Tyrone point of view, that's the next senior management," he said.

"If and when Mickey decides to retire, to me that's a ready-made, moulded and successful group of men who know what they are doing and the players respect them.

"Fergal Logan has come in there and he has developed that team. As a player what more do you want?

"You've (selectors) Peter Canavan and Brian Dooher standing alongside you. What more do you want?"
