Tyrone 1-11

Galway 1-9

Tyrone were forced to withstand a late comeback by 14-man Galway before securing their second win in Division 2  at Pearse Stadium.

A fortuitous goal by Tiernan McCann in the 12th minute helped the Red Hands to a 1-6 to 0-5 interval lead and they tightened their grip on proceedings after Paul Conroy was yellow-carded and then shown black in the 43rd minute for body-checking Colm Cavanagh.

But the hosts refused to lie down as Damien Comer's fifth goal in three games with three minutes remaining ensured a nervous finish for the visitors, who also had two points to spare over Cavan in the first round.

Liam Silke had the Tribesmen ahead inside 40 seconds, but they couldn't make their early dominance count as Ronan O'Neill equalised in the ninth minute. Eamon Brannigan briefly restored Galway's lead before the visitors took control with an unanswered 1-5 between the 12th and 27th minutes.

McCann's deflected goal got the ball rolling as Galway lost Tom Flynn to a black card in the 23rd minute. But three Eddie Hoare free in as many minutes left them just four adrift at the break.

Following Conroy's dismissal, substitutes Sean Cavanagh, Lee Brennan and Mark Bradley hit points to put the Red Hands in complete control.

But Comer's late goal set the cat among the pigeons.
